John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him may not perish, but have everlasting life." He offers us deliverance from death and life that lasts forever. But there's more!
John 17:3 says, "And this is life eternal, that they might know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, Whom Thou hast sent." Jesus offers us the privilege of knowing Him; that is the everlasting life we've been given. We know Him not just as a casual aquaintance.
Do you know your senators? Yes, I've met them.
Jesus offers you and me the amazing privilege of knowing Him intimately as a close friend. In the Old Testament, to speak of a man and his wife knowing each other was to talk about the closest relationship possible on earth. Think about the person you know the best, the friend you're closest to. That's how well Jesus wants you to know Him - and more!
Thus saith the LORD, "Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth Me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight," saith the LORD (Jeremiah 9:23-24).
Do you know Jesus? Do you want to know Him more? How hungry are you for Jesus, and what are you going to do about it?
